CARTA ’ s 2024 Distinguished Volunteers
Margaret Roome has been a volunteer for most of her life , supporting organizations in Drumheller and the Red Deer and Sylvan Lake areas . Her volunteer work in Drumheller included supporting the Drumheller Swim Club and the Rosedale Girls ’ Club . Margaret has volunteered her time and energy to various organizations in the Red Deer and Sylvan Lake areas over the years , including Women ’ s Outreach , Cronquist House , and Habitat for Humanity . Margaret has devoted herself to activities in her churches both in Drumheller and Red Deer .
Margaret has been a loyal member and supporter of CARTA for fifteen years , serving on the executive over this period . She has been on the Wellness Committee , the Membership Committee , and the CARTA Arts Committee in conjunction with the Red Deer Cultural Group . Margaret also served on the formative Wellness Committee for ARTA in 2011 .
Lyle Meeres has been a valued educator — both before and after retirement — in education circles and in the community . Lyle started his career with Red Deer Public Schools in 1959 at Westpark Elementary . After his retirement in 1994 , Lyle worked as a consultant with the Red Deer Public School Board , with the Alberta Curriculum Board , and served on the Red Deer Library Board .
Lyle ’ s passion for writing was instrumental to the creation of the CARTA Inkblots writing group in 2016 . The group has grown from its modest kitchen-table gatherings to well-attended twicemonthly meetings held at the Timberland Library .
Lyle has been a dedicated supporter of CARTA for twenty years . He has attended many functions and helped out with many jobs at the events . He compiled the history of CARTA and provided most of the historical information currently found on the CARTA website .
