Patients diagnosed with hepatitis C often do not exhibit any deterioration in the liver until much later in life so covering every person ( for , say , $ 80,000 ) if they have been diagnosed with hepatitis C is not sustainable for both medicare and the ARTA plan . Rather , ARTA plan member resources are taking a close look at the level of deterioration of the liver before a determination of coverage is made .

Q : How will my coverage be affected by the ARTA Retiree Benefits Plan no longer covering non-life-sustaining over-thecounter medications ?
A : There will be no change to over-the-counter medications that are considered to be life-sustaining , such as insulin , diabetic supplies and nitroglycerin . Over-the-counter medications that are not considered life-sustaining ( such as vitamins and minerals ) will no longer be covered , beginning January 1 , 2017 .
Q : How will the new ARTA Drug Enquiry Tool ( DET ) be helpful to ARTA covered members ?
A : The ARTA Drug Enquiry Tool will be updated in October and November to reflect the prescription drug management issues , effective January 1 , 2017 . We expect the new DET to be launched in late December reflecting each of the changes discussed in this article .
The DET will include ARTA ’ s drug plan ‘ preferred ’ coverages for therapeutic alternatives and enhanced special authorization , which will assist covered members to dialogue effectively with their physicians and pharmacists about these changes .
