ARTA Retiree Benefits Plan : Benefit Tips and Reminders

BY SHELLY ROBICHAUD , BA , GBA | ASEBP Liaison

There are some important considerations to be aware of before you purchase an expensive item covered by your benefits . Coverage details for your ARTA Retiree Benefits Plan are available in the plan texts at arta . net , but we ’ ve included some of the common benefit questions our benefit plan coordinators are asked .

1 ) Are eyeglasses eligible every two calendar years ? No . Vision care claims , such as eyeglasses , are available every two years from the date you last purchased eyeglasses . You can refer to your claims history in your ARTA Members Health Care Account to see the exact date you last purchased eyeglasses .
For example , if you purchase $ 425 eyeglasses on January 15 , 2017 , and you have a $ 425 plan maximum , you would be eligible for another $ 425 on January 15 , 2019 .
If you purchase $ 100 contact lenses on January 15 , 2017 , and again on March 31 , 2017 , and you have a $ 425 plan maximum , you would be eligible for $ 325 on January 15 , 2019 , and another $ 100 on March 31 , 2019 .
2 ) Which date matters when it comes to reimbursing a claim ? Eligible claims are paid based on the date of service , i . e ., the date the service is provided or the product is purchased . The date you receive a bill for the product or service is not taken into account .
3 ) Will the ARTA Retiree Benefits Plan cover administration fees charged by my health care provider ? The plan will cover the cost of the medication , but fees charged by a health care professional for administering the medication or consulting with you about it are not eligible for coverage . This means you will have a small out-of-pocket cost for the administration of your medication . This is also true for sclerotherapy ; the medication used for sclerotherapy treatment is an eligible expense , but any charge to administer the medication is not .
4 ) How often can I visit my dentist for checkups and cleanings ? Checkups and cleanings may occur as often as you and your dental professional agree depending on your dental treatment approach . However , your ARTA Retiree Benefits Plan covers one standard oral exam every calendar year and one complete oral exam every three calendar years .
