‘ E ’ Is for Everything

An ‘ e ’ in front of any type of written material tells you that you will be looking at a screen . From e-magazines , e-newspapers and e-books , we now get much of our information and our entertainment . Publications once only available in print have begun to embrace electronic publishing , and some familiar publications are now only available in ‘ e ’ format . Here are some thoughts to consider about both content and format of this newest of publishing formats .

Newspapers in particular are pressured to provide current information , and most print publications have an online presence . By the time news makes it to print , it may be hours or even days old , while e-news stories can be updated in real time . Most online news sources also provide subscribers with the opportunity to comment , effectively allowing discussion .
Magazines have also changed their format dramatically in recent years to appeal to the digital reader . Tablet versions of magazines frequently have bonus features including additional information , links and sponsored materials .
E-magazines are fresh the moment they are released , an important feature for time-sensitive stories . By the time a reader picks up a print copy , other subscribers will have received the magazine electronically and read it on their tablet . This fact is particularly important for financial publications or those that cover local events .
Many magazines aren ’ t even available in print any more , especially those that cover news and current events . Rogers ’ recent move to reduce Maclean ’ s to a monthly print edition and weekly online publication is a case in point . Chatelaine and Today ’ s Parent will have only six print
