Two of our members won the 2019
Medicine Hat Community Spirit Awards:
Bill Wahl, retired music director at Crescent
Heights High School; conductor of the Medicine Hat
Concert Band; and mainstay bugler.

Evelyn Kleis, retired art teacher at Crescent Heights
High School; contributing artist to displays and
shows at the stampede, the Esplanade, the Alberta
Art Foundation, the Medicine Hat Art Gallery, and
Cable 10 art lessons; and former Artist in Residence
at St. Michael’s School. ●
Clarence Michael Goldade Memorial Golf Tournament

The annual Clarence Michael
Goldade Memorial Golf
Tournament was held on June
16, 2019, at the Connaught Golf
Club, Medicine Hat. It was a very
successful event, which produced
the funds that have provided so
many scholarships. Each year a
student from Eagle Butte High
School has received a $500
scholarship from the funds raised.
The scholarship presentations
were held on October 11; this
year Shyla Hurlbert, currently
attending the University of
Lethbridge, was the recipient. Her
scholarship was accepted on her
behalf by her cousin Madeline
Fischer, a student at Eagle Butte
High School. This very impressive
ceremony was also attended by
MHADRTA members, Henk Hof,
Ray Morrison, and Annita Pinder.
Annita took photographs at the
ceremony and keeps our branch
history books and photo albums
up to date.
Although it has been eight
years since Clarence passed
away, his dedication to education
has carried on through these
scholarships. Our families on

both sides have been greatly
involved with education in one
way or another and we think of
this as a very worthwhile legacy. ●
