FROM THE CEO

A Reflection on Joy

Daniel Mulloy | Chief Executive Officer, ARTA

You bring me joy.— Daniel Mulloy

Joy isn’ t always something big or loud. It’ s more than fanfare, applause, or a picture-perfect moment where everything falls into place. Most of the time, joy arrives quietly. There’ s no big entrance, just a simple moment when you notice that things feel right.
It happens when you are mid-conversation with someone, laughing at something only the two of you would understand, or even just sitting together in silence that feels easy. And then, out of nowhere, you get that gut-level feeling: I’ m really lucky you’ re here.
That’ s joy. Not the kind you plan for, not the kind that posts well online. The kind that catches you off guard and settles in deep.
Joy is having people in your life who make things better just by being there. They don’ t have to say the perfect words or fix everything. They simply help make the tough times feel a bit lighter. They don’ t arrive with a big entrance. They come in and stay.
You do that.
You’ ve made a difference in my life that’ s hard to put into words. Real change isn’ t easy. A lot of people have good intentions but aren’ t there when it counts. You were. You showed up, not just once, but again and again. And that matters more than you probably realize. This kind of connection isn’ t showy. It doesn’ t come from big, dramatic moments. It’ s found in the small things, like an early morning check-in when the day feels tough, a joke that eases the mood, or a quiet talk where you can finally be yourself. That’ s the stuff we overlook.
But it’ s where the best kind of joy lives.
We often look for happiness in the wrong places: achievements, approval, or control. But real joy is usually just having someone who lets you be yourself and chooses to stay by your side. So, if you ever wonder whether you matter— you do.
You make things better for me. And in a world that’ s always rushing, always distracted, that’ s no small thing. Thanks for being here. That’ s joy.
