Traditions are passed down the generations through words spoken and written, stories, festivals, ceremonies, celebrations, and especially through the modelling of behaviour.
Mothers often play a vital role in the intergenerational transmission of traditional values and practices. At Lenyadri, while an elderly uncle looked on, a young mother, home on a visit from abroad, lifted her small son so that he could participate in the age-old bell-ringing arrival ritual. Here I have chosen my favourite blue pigments to capture my impression of this moment of cultural continuity through human affection.
