In 1955 , Lavila Lang began her teaching career in the one-room Gordon School west of Innisfail , Alberta , continuing at Delburne and River Glen schools in the County of Red Deer . After 40 years of teaching , she retired in 1995 .
Lavila and her husband , Jim , married for 56 years , love spending time with their family and travelling . She enjoys walking and many crafts with emphasis on gathering and pressing flowers for personal greeting cards .
As a volunteer who has focused on community organizations , she has been involved with the following :
• Been a member of Delta Kappa Gamma , Red Deer chapter ;
• Volunteered at the Sunnybrook Farm Museum in Red Deer for 20 years , helping to develop and teach school programs , interpreting and guiding group tours , assisting with lunches and suppers and co-ordinating exhibits for Pioneer Days in the Hanna House ;
• Volunteered for front-of-house tasks for 27 years at the Red Deer College Arts Centre ;
• Joined Central Alberta Theatre in 1970 and has performed in musicals , worked backstage , assisted with props and costumes and helped with front of house ;
