Your Friendly Neighbourhood Pharmacist
Alberta’ s population has grown rapidly in recent years, but the number of pharmacists hasn’ t kept pace.
Pair that with rising prescription costs and global drug supply issues, and it’ s not difficult to see why access to quality pharmacy services has become a worry for many across Alberta. ARTA members are no exception: a 2019 member survey found that nearly seventy per cent of respondents indicated an interest in accessing more affordable medication and higher-quality pharmacy services. It was this powerful response that led to an investigation of what ARTA could do to help, ultimately leading to the creation of ARTARx, a plan-owned pharmacy with locations in Edmonton and, as of this year, Calgary.
Using the ARTARx Pharmacy is an option for ARTA members living in the Edmonton and Calgary areas, not a requirement. But the reason behind its creation— to provide quality and affordable pharmacy services for retirees— is an idea all ARTA members should take notice of, regardless of their location or pharmacy of choice. Knowing your pharmacist, and trusting them, could make a world of difference when it comes to your health.
