Robert Michon Manager , Communications , ARTA
When ARTA member Pat Kerr says goodbye to her daughter and granddaughter after another fond visit , she does as many loving grandparents do :
She follows them out to the driveway , helps load her sleepy granddaughter into the van , and waves goodbye as they drive around the corner . At this point , the slight chill in the air and the darkness of spring evenings would push many to go back inside . But instead , Pat takes a moment to look up at the sky .
The night sky , one of humanity ’ s oldest sources of entertainment , has waned in popularity over the last thousand years . Countless other interests and responsibilities compete for our attention , and bright city lights drown out much of what is available to see . But it ’ s worthwhile to take a few moments now and then , just to look up .
