Nature Alberta promotes nature appreciation and conservation
Duane Radford Article and Photos
Alberta is blessed with various organizations that are staunch conservation advocates.
I’ ll focus on delegated administrative organizations( DAO) of the Government of Alberta( GOA)— which operate at arm’ s length from government— and not-for-profit, non-government organizations. We should also be very proud of the people in these key organizations who play an important role to conserve and protect the environment.
Your favourite natural areas may be a result of the efforts of one or more of these organizations. Some of them offer volunteer opportunities, while others rely on donations. If Alberta’ s wild areas are important to you, look for ways you might get involved.
Alberta Conservation Association
A charitable DAO committed to the conservation and enhancement of Alberta’ s natural biological resources. Their core business is to contribute to sustainable management of Alberta’ s wildlife and fish populations, and the habitat upon which they depend. They are fully transparent and have an outstanding biannual Conservation Magazine.
Alberta Land Trust Grant Program
Provides funding to establish, administer, and steward new conservation easements on private land and administer and steward new conservation land acquired by land trusts. Project streams are conservation easements and fee-simple projects. Funding is provided to conserve ecologically important areas and prevent habitat fragmentation, maintain biodiversity, and preserve native landscapes.
Alberta Prairie Conservation Forum
A large voluntary coalition of stakeholder groups. APCF members are interested in the conservation of native prairie and parkland environments in Alberta. The forum was established by the GOA in 1988.
