The Green & Gold Community Garden — “ a community garden with a difference ” — is located on the University of Alberta Farm ( South Campus ) in the heart of the city .

The garden grows food to be sold at our garden market to raise funds for the Tubahumurize Association , a non-profit organization that supports marginalized women and children in Rwanda . Tubahumurize in the Kinyarwanda language means “ let us console and give them hope .”
Tubahumurize is the brainchild of Jeanne Mwiliriza , a Rwandan woman who lost her husband and more than fifty extended family members in the 1994 genocide . Years later , the murder of her best friend by her husband spurred Jeanne to create the Tubahumurize Association in 2006 . The association supports women and children who are victims of violence and marginalization in Rwanda . Through the efforts of Tubahumurize , women benefit from group and individual trauma
