When thinking about what to write when presented with the theme of “ making it ,” a lot of ideas rattled through my brain . While doing research on the topic , I came across the famous quote by Mark Twain : “ Make a living by doing what you enjoy , and you will never have to work a day in your life .” To me , that quote is what “ making it ” is all about . I would say that I have made it in the fact that I enjoy what I do . While not every day is easy , I enjoy the challenges that each day brings , and while some may call it a job , I believe working at ARTA is an adventure — one that never feels like work and is full of reward and potential .

Like many of you , I have had many careers and opportunities before joining this association . All those other opportunities felt like jobs ; they were a means to an end , which was collecting a paycheque to support my family . Since coming to ARTA , I feel a different sense of purpose , and the goals that the association strives for are goals that I can stand behind . Having a passion for what I do and knowing that I make a difference makes each day feel less like work and more like an adventure .

At ARTA , our adventures never seem to end . Whether dealing with governments ’ shenanigans , day-to-day challenges , never-ending change , or the desire to provide excellence to our members , the adventure is never a boring one . To me , adventures are fun and full of quests and challenges . ARTA is a fun place to be , where I am surrounded by dedicated staff , an outstanding board of directors , committee members , trust members , and foundation members who are all adventure-seekers in their own way . So again , when I reflect back on the theme “ making it ” and the quote by Mark Twain , I believe “ making it ” is a byproduct of loving what you do . And I love what I do .
