EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR ’ S REPORT

DANIEL MULLOY | CAO and Executive Director , ARTA

The Alberta Retired Teachers ’ Association ’ s

( ARTA ’ s ) official publication , news & views magazine , has been the anchor and voice of the association . The goals of our publication have been to advocate , educate , and entertain retired teachers and like-minded professionals and to effect real change .
We celebrate our 100th issue of news & views … quite a feat ! This milestone could not have been accomplished without the dedication , vision and passion of many including , but not limited to , members of our executive , board , communication committee and our superb editorial staff .
As executive director and chief administrative officer , I get to talk to so many of our members across the country who value the magazine and its ability to inform and entertain as well as keep our members connected . This magazine has had a real influence in our members ’ lives and I could not be prouder of it .
ARTA has grown over the years , and that growth has been reflected in the pages of news & views . We have acknowledged the diverse interests of the retiree community by highlighting travel , finance , health and wellness , economics and an array of interesting and informative topics — always with an eye on recognizing the uniqueness of the members we serve .
Our news & views magazine has been instrumental in informing our members about current issues that significantly impact their

lives ; from election issues to benefits changes , news & views has been a beacon of information for many .
It ’ s amazing to see how far we ’ ve come over the years . When the first issue of news & views was produced , there were just a few thousand members who benefitted from the information and guidance offered by our association ’ s dedicated writers . We have now grown to almost 20,000 members who overwhelmingly tell us that the magazine is important to them and that they read it cover to cover . It ’ s truly remarkable !
Thanks again to the members of our executive , board and communications committee for their oversight and direction . Thank you to the staff of ARTA who support the efforts to make this magazine the success it is .
Thank you to the writers who contribute to the magazine . Your creativity is what feeds the minds of our readers . Thank you to the proofreaders and designers who make sure that the magazine is not only attractive but well structured .
And finally thank you to the editorial staff , Robin and Margaret , who do so much to make this magazine a success . You have applied the best of yourselves to the task at hand and the influence you have had on this association is immeasurable .
This magazine has done so much to advance the causes of our association and its members . I ’ m so proud of what we ’ ve accomplished and I can ’ t wait to see what great strides we will make in the next 100 issues . news & views AUTUMN 2017 | 7
