FLASH FICTION Very short story 1,200 words maximum Entirely fictional , any subject , any genre

POETRY Any form , any subject ( Poems in rhyming couplets will not be considered .)

CHILDREN ’ S STORY 1,000 words maximum

Rules

The contest is open to all ARTA members , except members of the Communications Committee and their families .

• All submissions must be original work .

• Submissions may be handwritten or typed .

• Electronic submissions o must be . doc , . docx or . rtf format o must be in one of Times New Roman , Calibri , Arial or

Verdana fonts o other formats or fonts will not be considered .

• Do not include illustrations with submissions .

• Writers are limited to one entry per category ; however , submissions in more than one category are welcome .

• The selection of winners by the Communications Committee will be considered final .

• Entry submission implies permission to publish in news & views .

• Winners will be advised privately by letter and publicly in the spring issue of news & views .

• All entrants retain ownership of publication rights to their work ; however , winners may not submit their entries to another market until after publication in news & views .

• ARTA retains the right to use the submissions for promotional purposes during and after the competition .

• Prizes for Best of Category and Second Place will be awarded . Up to two Honourable Mentions per category may be awarded at the discretion of the judges .

• All prizes must be accepted as awarded .

• Email address ( if any )

• ARTA membership number

• Word count of body for flash fiction and children ’ s story

Forward electronic entries to writingcontest @ arta . net as an attachment to an email with the subject line WRITING CONTEST . You will be notified when your submission has been received . Please do not resubmit your entry to the address below once you have sent it electronically .

Handwritten or typed manuscripts may be sent to WRITING CONTEST c / o ARTA Office , 11835 149 Street NW , Edmonton , AB T5L 2J1 .

Please only submit a disposable copy since we cannot return handwritten or typed material .
